Olivet Defeats Spalding (Ky.),78-64, in the Consolation Game of the Taylor (Ind.) Holiday Classic
The Olivet College women's basketball team defeated Spalding (Ky.) University, 78-64, in the consolation game of the Taylor University Holiday Classic in Upland, Ind. With the win, the Lady Comets' overall record improves to 5-4.
UPLAND, IND. – The Olivet College women's basketball team defeated Spalding (Ky.) University, 78-64, in the consolation game of the Taylor University Holiday Classic in Upland, Ind. With the win, the Lady Comets' overall record improves to 5-4.
Sophomore guard Emily Fix (Comstock Park High School) scored 34 points in the two games and was named to the all-tournament team.
Olivet held a 44-29 lead at halftime by virtute of making 16-of-31 shots. In the contest, the Comets outrebounded the Pelicans, 49-29, and made 27-of-59 (45.8%) shots from the floor.
Senior forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) led four players in double figures with 17 points. She also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Joining Grill in double digits were senior guard Lindsey Brunworth (Hudson High School) with 16 points, junior guard Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) with 14 markers and sophomore forward Tonya Dawson (Marshall High School) with 11 points. Brunworth and Dawson each nailed three 3-pointers.
Olivet will resume play next Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 4-5, when it travels to participate in the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic. The Comets will open play against Aquinas College on Saturday night at 8 p.m.
