Lady Comets Fall to St. Lawrence (N.Y.), 75-73, at the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic
The Olivet College women's basketball team made 21-of-21 free throws but it was not enough as the Lady Comets fell to St. Lawrence University of New York, 75-73, tonight at the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic. The Lady Comets' overall record slips to 5-5 and the Saints now have a 7-1 overall record.
ALMA, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team made 21-of-21 free throws but it was not enough as the Lady Comets fell to St. Lawrence University of New York, 75-73, tonight at the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic. The Lady Comets' overall record slips to 5-5 and the Saints now have a 7-1 overall record.
After falling behind 28-22, the Comets took the lead at 29-28 when freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) made a pair of free throws with 3:32 left. The Saints made a jump shot to take a 30-29 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Olivet trailed by as many as eight points at 64-56 with 5:54 remaining in the contest. The Comets then battled back to take a 73-72 with 37 seconds left. St. Lawrence connected on a jumper and free throw for a 75-73 lead. Senior guard Lindsey Brunworth (Hudson High School) missed a three-pointer as time expired.
Senior forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School), sophomore forward Tonya Dawson (Marshall High School), sophomore guard Emily Fix (Comstock Park High School) and junior guard Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) all had 12 points apiece to lead the Lady Comets. Grill also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Strange had four three-pointers.
St. Lawrence placed all five of its starters in double figures and its bench only contributed two points. Katie Griffith paced the Saints with a game-high 21 points.
Olivet will play Aquinas College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
