Lady Comets Rebound from First-Half Deficit to Defeat Alma, 75-70
The Olivet College women's basketball team rebounded from a 39-31 first-half deficit to defeat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Alma College, 75-70, today at the Upton Center. The win also snapped a five-game losing streak for Olivet.
OLIVET, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team rebounded from a 39-31 first-half deficit to defeat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Alma College, 75-70, today at the Upton Center. The win also snapped a five-game losing streak for Olivet.
In the first half, the Lady Comets (6-9, 1-3 MIAA) took an early 14-12 lead with 13:48 left. The Lady Scots took control and led by eight points on three occasions, including 39-31 at the 1:10 mark of the half. Olivet then scored the last five points of the first half and trailed, 39-36 at the break.
Olivet opened the second half with a 15-8 run over the first eight minutes to take a 51-47 lead. The Scots then tied the game five times with the last time being at 61-61. The Comets then had a 13-7 run to take a six-point lead when junior guard Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) made two free throws with 28 seconds left.
Lipton scored a career-high 23 points, which included five three-pointers, to lead Olivet. Senior three-time All-MIAA forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) and sophomore guard Emily Fix (Comstock Park High School) also scored in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Grill grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Karen Hall paced Alma (8-5, 2-2) with 20 points. Shelly Ulfig and Katey Peacock scored 14 points apiece and Ulfig grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.
The Comets will next play on Wednesday, Jan. 22 when they host Kalamazoo College at 7:30 p.m.
