Women’s Basketball Team Falls to MIAA Rival Albion College, 69-62
The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College, 69-62, at Kresge Gymnasium.
ALBION, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College, 69-62, at Kresge Gymnasium.
After Albion jumped out to a 24-5 lead with 10:50 left in the first half, the Lady Comets (6-12, 1-6) went on a 22-10 run to cut the deficit to seven points. Olivet also trailed 37-29 at halftime. In the second half, the Comets took a 56-54 lead when junior guard Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) made a three-pointer. The Brits then closed the game with a 15-6 run for the victory.
Freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) recorded her first collegiate double-double by scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Strange added 13 points and junior guard Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) scored 11 points.
Angie Spain paced Albion (11-7, 4-3 MIAA) with a game-high 19 points. Sarah Caskey and Jocelyn Zappala scored 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Olivet will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 1 when it travels to Notre Dame, Ind. to play Saint Mary's College at 3 p.m.
