Lady Comets Snap Three-Game Losing Streak with a 67-58 Win at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College
The Olivet College women's basketball team overcame a first-half deficit today to defeat Saint Mary's College of Indiana, 67-58, today at the Angela Athletic Center. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak.
NOTRE DAME, IND. – The Olivet College women's basketball team overcame a first-half deficit today to defeat Saint Mary's College of Indiana, 67-58, today at the Angela Athletic Center. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak.
After falling behind 21-8, the Lady Comets (7-12, 2-6) used a 13-4 run in the final 7:19 of the first half to trail 25-21 at the break. In the second half, Olivet took a 36-35 lead with 14:17 left and never relinquinshed it. The Comets led by as many as nine points when freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) made a free-throw to complete a three-point play at the 2:11 mark.
Olivet outrebounded Saint Mary's 45-30 and shot 45.1 percent from the floor, including 51.7 percent in the second half. Johnston was the only Olivet player in double figures with a game-high 19 points. She also grabbed nine rebounds.
Bridget Boyce came off the bench and led the Belles (5-14, 1-7 MIAA) with 15 points.
Olivet will next be in action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 when it hosts Calvin College at 7:30 p.m.
