Women’s Basketball Team Defeats Alma College, 75-64
The Olivet College women's basketball team won its second straight game as the Lady Comets defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Alma College, 75-64, tonight at Cappaert Gymnasium.
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team won its second straight game as the Lady Comets defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Alma College, 75-64, tonight at Cappaert Gymnasium.
After falling behind 24-19 at the 5:51 mark of the first half, the Lady Comets (9-13, 4-7 MIAA) went on a 9-2 run to take a 28-26 lead. Olivet also led, 34-33 at halftime.
Alma outscored the Comets, 10-4 to start the second half. Olivet then rebounded to lead by 10 points with 1:57 left in the contest. In the final 1:57, the Comets made eight-of-11 free throws to seal the victory.
Freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Olivet. Junior guard Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) added a season-high 18 points and sophomore guard Emily Fix (Comstock Park High School) had 13. Senior three-time All-MIAA forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Shelly Ulfig led the Scots (12-8, 6-5) with 15 points. Mindy VanDamme and Kristie Gehrs had 13 points apiece.
Olivet continues MIAA play on Saturday, Feb. 15 when it travels to play Kalamazoo College at 3 p.m.
