Women's basketball team loses to MIAA foe Adrian, 70-63
The Olivet College women's basketball team dropped a 70-63 decision against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Adrian College this afternoon at the Merillat Center.
The Olivet College women's basketball team dropped a 70-63 decision against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Adrian College this afternoon at the Merillat Center.
Following five ties in the first 8:39 of the opening half, the Lady Bulldogs (5-6, 1-2 MIAA) took the lead for good on a free throw by Nicole Jackson. Adrian led by as many as 17 points, 40-23, at the 2:31 mark.
Olivet (6-6, 0-3 MIAA) battled back with an 11-0 run to trim the deficit to six points when back-up guard Gina Willard (Kent City High School) canned two free throws. The Bulldogs also held a 41-34 lead at halftime.
The Comets managed to pull within six points, 48-42, at the 14:02 mark of the second half. Adrian responded to lead by 13 points twice with the last time being, 60-47, with 10:47 remaining in the contest.
Senior guard Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) led Olivet with 14 points. Sophomore centers Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genessee High School) and Courtney Ivan (Belleville High School) contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. Ivan also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
Olivet will be idle until next Saturday, Jan. 10 when it hosts Alma College in a MIAA game at the Upton Center at 3 p.m.
