The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College, 85-60, this afternoon at the Upton Center.
Following a 19-19 tie, the Lady Scots (8-5, 2-2 MIAA) went on a 13-0 run to take their biggest lead of the first half, 32-19. The Lady Comets (6-7, 0-4 MIAA) cut the deficit to just four points, 38-34, on back-to-back three-pointers by freshman forward Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier High School) with 52 seconds remaining. Alma extended its lead to as many 26 points on three occasions in the second half.
Sophomore center Courtney Ivan (Belleville High School) paced the Comets with 14 points and six rebounds. She was followed by junior guard Emily Fix (New Buffalo/Comstock Park High School) and Smith with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Alma shot 62.5 percent (30-of-48) from the floor. Karen Hall scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Scots. Ashley Borcherding added 20 points.
Olivet will next be in action on Tuesday, Jan. 13 when it hosts MIAA rival Albion College at 7:30 p.m.
