Following a 12-12 tie, the Comets (5-5) went on a 7-1 run to take its largest lead, 19-13, with 5:53 left in the first half. The Saints (8-6) answered with an 11-2 to take a 24-21 lead. Junior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge) canned two free throws with six second left in the half to make the score 24-23 at halftime. The first half featured three ties and eight lead changes.
In the first 3:20 of the second half, there were eight more lead changes. Aquinas grabbed the lead for good, 33-32, at the 16:40 mark. The Saints extended their lead as many as 17 points, 53-36, with 6:44 left in the game. The Comets closed to within three points on a three-pointer by Brackenwagen in the closing seconds of the game.
Senior Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) paced Olivet with 19 points. Brackenwagen chipped-in with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Aquinas was led by Joslyn Narber with 31 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and nine-of-11 from the free throw line. She also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Jackie Braspenninx added 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Comets resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Thursday, Jan. 4, when they host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 7:30 p.m.
