The Olivet College women's basketball team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Saint Mary's College, 76-58, this afternoon at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Olivet College women's basketball team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Saint Mary's College, 76-58, this afternoon at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
For the game, the Comets made more baskets (21 to 15) than the Belles and shot better from the floor (30.9 percent to 27.8 percent). However, Saint Mary's gained the victory with a MIAA single-game record 42 free throws made to just 10 made free throws for Olivet.
The Comets were led in scoring by senior Lauren Fishwick (Trenton) with 13 points. Sophomores Ameina Ross (Lansing/Eastern) and Caitlin Thilo (Onondaga/Eaton Rapids) each scored 10 points. Junior Gabrielle Federau (Okemos) led all players with 12 rebounds.
Nicole Beier was a spark off the bench for the Belles, scoring 15 points. Erin Newsom posted a double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Liz Wade also had 13 points. Patsy Mahony chipped in with 10 points.
Olivet will be back on the basketball court in less than 24 hours when it travels for a 3 p.m. game tomorrow at Siena Heights University.
