Women’s basketball team snaps losing streak with 66-54 win over Rochester
Sydney Radde posted a double-double (17 points and 21 rebounds) and SoQuitta DeShazor scored a game-high 20 points to lift the Olivet College women’s basketball team to a 66-54 win over Rochester College tonight in a non-conference contest at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The win snapped the Comets’ eight-game losing streak.
OLIVET, Mich. – Junior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) posted a double-double (17 points and 21 rebounds) and junior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) scored a game-high 20 points to lift the Olivet College women's basketball team to a 66-54 win over Rochester College tonight in a non-conference contest at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The win snapped the Comets' eight-game losing streak.
Olivet led by 10 points twice in the first 10 minutes of the game, with the last time being 16-6 at the 11:19 mark. The Warriors battled back with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 16-16 with 7:39 left before halftime. The Comets then outscored them, 14-2, to take their largest lead of the game, 30-18, at halftime.
Olivet stretched its lead to 13 points in the early stages of the second half. Rochester was able to get as close as two points, 48-46, with 5:46 remaining. The Comets then scored on four straight possessions to extend their lead back to seven points at the 1:46 mark. Olivet made eight free throws in the final minute to seal its victory.
For the game, the Comets shot 34.3 percent (23-of-67) to 30.6 percent (19-of-62) for the Warriors. Olivet also won the rebounding battle 50-41 and made five less turnovers, 11-16.
Radde made six baskets, including a 3-pointer, and four free throws for her 17 points, and eight of her 21 rebounds were off the offensive glass. She also blocked four shots and dished out five assists. DeShazor was 9-of-16 from the floor and made two free throws for her 20 points. Sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) nearly had a triple double with 13 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
Olivet (2-8) will now be off until Dec. 28-29 when it travels to Orlando, Fla., to participate in the RVA DIII Classic. The Comets will play Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College Dec. 28 at 6 p.m., and Concordia University-Chicago Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.
