OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) has earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week honors for women's basketball. She is sharing the honor with Calvin College's Carissa Verkaik.
Lang averaged 28.5 points and five rebounds, as the Comets won two league games last week to maintain third-place after the first half of their MIAA schedule. She came off the bench and scored 11 points in 11 minutes in Olivet's 72-58 win Jan. 9 at Alma College. Lang followed that performance with career-highs of 26 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes in the Comets' 62-60 overtime win Jan. 12 against Albion College. A transfer from Valparaiso (Ind.) University, she made 15-of-25 baskets (60 percent) and five-of-five free throws for the week. For the season, Lang is second on the team in scoring at 11.0 points per game.
"Stef has worked hard to get back on the floor for us since her injury," said Olivet Head Women's Basketball Coach Nicole Burford. "This past week showed she is steadily improving, building her confidence and starting to exhibit what she can do for us on the court."
Olivet is back in action tonight when it hosts Siena Heights University at 7:30 p.m.
