OLIVET, Mich. – For the third time this season, Olivet College junior Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) has earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week honors for women's basketball. She is also being honored for the fourth time in her career.
Campbell helped the Comets secure third-place in the MIAA standings with a pair of wins last week. She started the week by breaking the school and conference record with 16 assists in a 79-66 win over Alma College, and followed that performance with the first triple-double (15 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 points) in school history in a 69-37 rout against Kalamazoo College. The 16 assists in the Alma game are the most by a NCAA Division III women's basketball player, and tied for the most among all NCAA players, regardless of division, for the season. For the week, Campbell scored 16 points, pulled down 18 rebounds and recorded 27 assists.
"Kelsey is such an unselfish player, she loves to set her teammates up, so setting the league record for assists in a game is great for her," said Olivet Head Women's Basketball Coach Nicole Burford. "To follow it up with a triple-double the next game was pretty awesome. It really shows how much of an impactful player she is and has been to the program!"
For the season, Campbell leads the MIAA with 119 assists, and is second in 3-point fields goal made (39), third in 3-point field goal percentage (.382) and seventh in scoring (10.7 ppg).
Olivet returns to the court this week with road games against the top two teams in the MIAA. On Wednesday night, the Comets travel to play Hope College at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, they are at Calvin College for a 3 p.m. game.
