OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior guard Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) and senior center Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakevshore) have been named to the 2012-13 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) teams for women's basketball. Campbell is a first-team selection this season, while Radde is a second-team honoree. All-league honors are based on a player's statistics during the 16-game MIAA schedule.
Under the direction of third-year Head Coach Nicole Burford, the Comets had a 15-11 overall record and were third in the MIAA standings with a 10-6 mark. The 15 wins tied for the most in school history, while the 10 MIAA victories broke the single-season record.
Campbell, a second-team All-MIAA pick last season, started all 16 games for the Comets and was the MIAA leader in total assists (101) and assists per game (6.31). She also ranked among the top 10 in three-point field goal percentage (second, .425), total three-point field goals made (third, 34), three-point field goals made per game (fourth, 2.13), minutes played per game (fourth, 33.06) scoring (fifth, 12.6 ppg) and field goal percentage (ninth, .420). Her single-game highs were 26 points at Kalamazoo College Jan. 15 and MIAA-record 16 assists versus Alma College Jan. 30.
For the entire 26-game schedule, Campbell started every game and was second on the team in scoring at 10.8 ppg, and led the team in three-pointers made (46) and free throws made (58). In addition, she broke the college's single-season assists record with 143. Campbell is the first Olivet player since Audrey Graham in 2006-07 to be a first-team All-MIAA selection.
"It is great for Kelsey to be honored by the league and for her to take another step forward," said Burford. "She is a team player and has been our offensive floor leader the past two seasons. Kelsey has helped our team improve and take a step forward as well."
Radde also started all 16 MIAA games for Olivet. Among the league leaders, she was second in rebounding (7.5 rpg), third in total blocks (25) and blocks per game (1.56), fourth in field goal percentage (.461) and ninth in scoring (9.6 ppg). Radde posted three double-doubles in MIAA play, with her single-game highs being 21 points versus Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Jan. 19 and 14 rebounds at Alma Jan. 19.
For the entire 26-game schedule, Radde led the Comets in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and blocked shots (33), and was fourth in scoring (8.7 ppg).
"Sydney was the one of the hardest workers and most consistent since the day she came to Olivet," said Burford. "She is one that no matter what today is like for her, good or bad, Sydney will be there tomorrow working hard to get better."
