Women’s basketball: Comets fall to Lawrence Tech, 86-52
The Olivet College women’s basketball team ended the non-conference portion of its 2014-15 schedule with an 86-52 loss today at Lawrence Technological Institute in Southfield.
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team ended the non-conference portion of its 2014-15 schedule with an 86-52 loss today at Lawrence Technological Institute in Southfield.
The Blue Devils led by 14 points, 24-10, just under the midpoint of the opening half. The Comets chipped away at their deficit and cut it in half, 29-22, with 3:04 left before halftime. Lawrence Tech came back and pushed its lead back to double digits and led by 13 points, 39-26, at the break. Olivet got no closer for the remainder of the game.
Senior Carli Reid led the Comets with team-highs in points (14) and rebounds (eight). Junior Morgan West and senior Stefanie Lang scored 13 and 11 points, respectively. Juniors Dallas Austin and Leighann Thilo each had three assists, while Austin had three steals.
Allison Bicknell paced the Blue Devils with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. Hayley Walkowski finished with 16 points, and Allison Kitchen contributed 16 points and seven rebounds.
Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Saturday afternoon against Calvin College. Tip-off from inside The Cutler Event Center is 3 p.m.
NOTES: With her 11points, Lang now sits seventh on Olivet's all-time scoring list with 953 points. She needs only eight points to pass Emily Fix for sixth-place on the scoring list. Lang's four rebounds pushed her into fifth-place on the all-time list.
