Hatfield and Gohsman lead UOlivet to 66-47 win over Worcester State

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Kinsley Hatfield and freshman Reese Gohsman scored in double figures to lead The University of Olivet women's basketball team to a 66-47 win over Worcester State University (Mass.) today in the consolation game of the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament, hosted by Transylvania University (Ky).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Lancers made the first basket of the game, the Comets reeled off six straight points – four by freshman Madelyn Burdis and two by Hatfield. Worcester State answered with a 6-2 run to even the score at 8-8 with 3:50 left in the opening quarter. Olivet then drained back-to-back three-pointers by freshmen Ava Lord and Teresa Repichowski. The Lancers connected on two shots before a basket by freshman Alexis Woodbeck made the score 16-12 at the end of the first period.
- Worcester State closed the gap to three points, 20-17, early in the second quarter. Olivet answered with an 18-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by Hatfield, to make the score 38-19 with 1:09 left until halftime. The Lancers made a layup in the final seconds of the quarter to trail 37-21 after 20 minutes of game time.
- The third quarter did not feature much scoring for the two teams, as they combined for only 20 points – 11 for the Worcester State and nine for the Comets. Olivet led 47-32 at the onset of the fourth quarter. The Comets led by as many as 25 points, 65-40, with 2:33 left.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the game, Olivet forced 27 turnovers and scored 27 points off the miscues.
- Hatfield scored a game-best 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
- Freshman Reese Gohsman nearly had a double-double with 16 points and team-high eight rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's game was the first-ever meeting between Olivet and Worcester State in any sport.
- The 47 points scored by the Lancers were the fewest points scored by an Olivet opponent this season.
- For her performances over the last two games, Hatfield was named to the All-Tournament team.
