The Olivet College women’s golf team stands in 11th-place (out of 20 teams) after the first round of the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championships at the El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Comets will begin the second of four rounds tomorrow afternoon at 12:50 p.m.

Olivet, ranked No. 14 in the latest golfstat.com Head-to-Head Rankings, posted a 352 team score. The Comets are only three strokes behind 10th-place Illinois Wesleyan University and four strokes behind ninth-place Williams (Mass.) College. Defending national champion Methodist (N.C.) University leads the field with a 303 team score.
Leading the way for the Olivet is sophomore Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) who returned to the clubhouse with an 85 (43-42), including a par on nine holes. Senior Kristy Latimer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) recorded an 87 (39-48) and was one of seven golfers to have a birdie on the par-five first hole. Sophomore Trisha McKim (DeWitt) is next with an 89 (44-45). Senior Stephanie Nicolai (Shelbyville/Wayland Union) needed 91 (45-46) strokes to complete her round. Freshman Megan Rimmel's (Ithaca) 101 (52-49) did not factor into the Comet team score.
