Women’s golf team finishes in second-place at Katman Klassic
After Saturday’s first round, the women’s golf team was in fifth-place at the DePauw (Ind.) University/Katman Klassic with a 326 team score. The Comets were just one of two schools to shoot a lower score (320) in today’s second round on the Twin Bridges Golf Course, which allowed them to finish in second-place.
DANVILLE, Ind. – After Saturday's first round, the Olivet College women's golf team was in fifth-place at the DePauw (Ind.) University/Katman Klassic with a 326 team score. The Comets were just one of two schools to shoot a lower score (320) in today's second round on the Twin Bridges Golf Course, which allowed them to finish in second-place.
The Comets' two-round total of 646 strokes was 34 strokes behind the host Tigers, who shot a 314 and 298 for a 612 total. team score. Washington (Mo.) University was third at 647 (323-324), followed by Wittenberg (Ohio) University in fourth at 654 (325-329) and Illinois Wesleyan University in fifth at 657 (323-334). DePauw's Natalie Gough had a two-under par 70 today and finished with a 150 total to earn medalist hours.
Senior Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/ Harper Creek) and freshman Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) had identical rounds both days, 81 on Saturday and 78 today for two-round totals of 159 strokes to tie for sixth-place in the player standings. Senior Abby Wheeler (Grayling) shot a two-day total of 163 (81-82) strokes. Junior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) improved by one stroke today with an 82 and finished with a 165. Freshman Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) had an 86, followed by an 83 for a 169.
Olivet will host the first playoff round to determine the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's berth to the 2011 NCAA DIII National Championships next Thursday, April 14, at The Medalist Golf Club. The shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
