Women’s golf team wins own invitational and Campbell is tournament medalist
Senior Lauren Campbell earned tournament medalist honors, and the Olivet College women’s golf team won the championship at its own invitational today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
MARSHALL, Mich. – Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) earned tournament medalist honors, and the Olivet College women's golf team won the championship at its own invitational today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
The Comets carded a two-day total of 664 strokes. University of Saint Francis (Ind.) was the runner-up at 671, followed by North Central, 673; Madonna, 688; and Calvin, 690. The rest of the top 10 were Hope, 694; Adrian, 723; Trine, 749; Alma, 754; and Manchester, 762.
After shooting a 78 in Friday's first round, Campbell lowered her score today by four strokes for a two-round total of 152 strokes. The 74 ties for the second-best, 18-hole round in school history. Sophomores Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) and Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) joined Campbell on the all-tournament team with a 165 and 166, respectively. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) had a 181, while freshman Megahn Piper (Parma/Western) finished at 209. Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) had the low score of the individual players with a 182.
Olivet now turns its attention to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The Comets will participate in the first MIAA Jamboree Thursday at Trine's Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana. The shotgun start is set for 1 p.m.
