Women’s golf team sits in seventh-place after first round of Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic
The Olivet College women’s golf team is in seventh-place after the first round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe University and at the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Ga. Among the 20 teams in the field, nine schools are ranked in the Top 15 of the Golfstat.com rankings.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Olivet College women's golf team is in seventh-place after the first round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic, hosted by Oglethorpe University and at the Indian Mound Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Ga. Among the 20 teams in the field, nine schools are ranked in the Top 15 of the Golfstat.com rankings.
The No. 7 Comets posted a 331 team score and are only stroke behind No. 23 Southwestern (Tex.) University and four strokes behind both No. 1 Methodist (N.C.) University and No. 17 Claremont Mudd Scripps (Calif.) University. No. 11 Rhodes (Tenn.) College is in first-place at 315, while No. 6 University of Texas at Tyler and No. 8 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) University are tied for second-place at 322.
Leading the way for Olivet is senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Thurston), who is tied for fourth in the individual standings with a four-over par 78. Her round featured 12 pars and six bogies. There are three golfers tied for medalist honors with 77s.
Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) is next with an 82. Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) carded an 85, followed by senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) at 86 and sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) at 87.
The second of three rounds will be played tomorrow. Tee times are to be announced.
