OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) was named to the 2014 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division III All-American honorable mention team, as announced last Wednesday, May 14, at the WGCA Awards Banquet in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. In addition, Plourde and senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) earned 2014 WGCA All-Great Lakes Region honors.
Plourde and Damico helped the Comets finish in 11th-place at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships May 13-16 at the El Campeon Golf Course and inside the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills. For the 2013-14 season, Plourde posted a 79.6 stroke average over 26 rounds, with a low of 73 strokes April 16 at the Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind. Damico averaged 80.3 strokes in her 26 rounds. Her lowest round of the year was a 74, which was also her first round of the season Aug. 31, at the Olivet Labor Day Tee-off Tournament.
Both Plourde and Damico finished their Olivet careers as three-time first-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selections. Damico also earned second-team All-MIAA honors as a freshman to be only the fourth women's golfer in school history to be a four-time all-conference selection. The duo helped the Comets win three straight MIAA championships from (2011, 2012, 2013) and advance to the NCAA DIII National Championships three of their four seasons (2011, 2013, 2014).
Over 96 career rounds for both, only 56 total strokes separated them. Damico totaled 7,854 strokes for an 81.8 average, while Plourde had 7,910 strokes for an 82.4 average. Damico's career-best round was an even par 72 at The Medalist Golf Club, which ties for the third-best round in school history. Plourde twice shot a 73 for the sixth-best rounds in school history. Damico and Plourde each had a two-round score of 150 strokes to share the second-best, 36-hole score in school history.
