Women’s golf team moves up one spot for seventh-place finish at WashU Spring Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team moved up spot for a seventh-place finish at the 2016 Washington (Mo.) University Spring Invitational and played at the Norman K. Probstein Community Golf Courses in Forest Park, Missouri.
FOREST PARK, Mo. – The Olivet College women's golf team moved up spot for a seventh-place finish at the 2016 Washington (Mo.) University Spring Invitational and played at the Norman K. Probstein Community Golf Courses in Forest Park, Missouri.
After Saturday's first round score of 354 strokes put the Comets in eighth-place, they lowered their team score by 29 strokes at 325 for a two-round total of 679. Rhodes (Tenn.) College ran away with the team title, posting a two-day total of 613 strokes to beat Carleton (Minn.) College and Sewanee (Tenn.) University who tied for second-place with 645s. St. Catherine (Minn.) University edged the host Bears by one stroke for fourth-place, 665-666. Carthage (Wis.) College was sixth at 677.
Junior Laura Bacso improved her own score by seven strokes with a 77 in today's round. Combined with the 84 in Saturday's round, she finished with a two-round total of 161 to share ninth-place in the player standings. In today's round, Bacso had three birdies, including two on the front nine
Today, senior Brooke Kastamo had the team's second-best round with an 80 to give her a two-day total of 172 strokes. Senior Casey Lamp was one stroke ahead with a two-round total of 171 strokes, with an 82 in today's round. Senior Kirstin Langer shot a two-day total of 175 strokes. Freshman Hayley Cooper completed her two rounds in 189 total strokes.
After a couple weeks of practice, the Comets will next compete Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, at the Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
