Women’s lacrosse team falls at Albion, 14-4
The women’s lacrosse team was defeated by Albion College, 14-4, today at Alumni Field in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Albion College, 14-4, today at Alumni Field in Albion.
The Comets scored the first goal of the game when senior Veronica Maidens (Arcadia/Onekama) found the back of the net on a free-position shot. The Britons responded with eight straight goals. Maidens made the score 8-2 at halftime with an unassisted goal with 40 seconds left before the break.
Albion had two goals in a span of 37 seconds in the early stages of the second half. Freshman Alyssa Meny (Marshall) scored for Olivet and the Britons answered with one. Maidens added her third goal of the game before Albion closed the scoring with three goals.
For the game, Maidens' three goals raised her season total to 23. She also had half (nine) of the Comets' shots. Meny and junior Cara VanDam (Grand Rapids/City) each recorded three shots. Freshman Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) made 21 saves, while playing all 60 minutes in net.
Olivet will play three games tomorrow at Aquinas College. The Comets' first game is at 9 a.m. against Grand Valley.
