Women’s lacrosse: Merrell named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week
Olivet College senior attacker Geri Merrell has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week for women’s lacrosse.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior attacker Geri Merrell has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week for women's lacrosse.
Merrell scored 14 total points and won 14 draw controls last week to help the Comets get off to a 2-1 start to the 2015 season. She had five goals and five draw controls in a 21-11 loss March 4 to Lawrence Tech. Merrell added three more goals in a 14-5 win March 6 over Hiram (Ohio) College. She ended the week with six points, five goals and one assist, and six draw controls in a 19-12 victory March 7 over Benedictine (Ill.) University.
"Geri is very deserving of this award," said Olivet Head Coach Mary Ann Meltzer. "She was instrumental in the success of our week."
Olivet is back in action Tuesday, March 17, when it hosts Defiance (Ohio) College at 6 p.m.
