OLIVET, Mich. – Newly appointed Olivet College head women's lacrosse coach Mackenzie Inman traveled to Baltimore, Maryland, in January for an opportunity she could not pass up. Shortly after being hired as Olivet's coach, Inman reached out to Janine Tucker, the head women's lacrosse coach at Johns Hopkins University.
Inman wanted to get advice from Tucker, who will be in her 23rd season at the helm of the Blue Jays, on her coaching strategies and advice on how to run a successful program. Instead of giving the advice over the phone and through email exchanges, Tucker invited Inman to Maryland to shadow her for a day and watch her daily routines and how she runs her practices. The trip was scheduled for four days but was cut short due to the blizzard which hit Maryland.
"It was a great experience and awesome opportunity," said Inman. "She gave me so many tips and tricks on how to run my own practices. I have already begun to implement some of them in mine. Janine has graciously offered to be a mentor for me and told me I can reach out to her for any advice I need."
Inman makes her coaching debut for the Comets Saturday, Feb. 27, when they make the trip to Ada, Ohio, to play Ohio Northern University. Game time is 4 p.m. Olivet's home-opener is Saturday, April 9, against Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 1 p.m.
