Wrestling team has 1-1 record at the Bud Whitehill Duals
The Olivet College wrestling team had a 1-1 record today at the Bud Whitehill Duals at Lycoming (Pa.) College. The Fighting Comets opened the day with a 33-9 loss against the University of Wisc.-LaCrosse. Olivet rebounded to beat SUNY-Oswego, 26-13.
The Olivet College wrestling team had a 1-1 record today at the Bud Whitehill Duals at Lycoming (Pa.) College. The Fighting Comets opened the day with a 33-9 loss against the University of Wisc.-LaCrosse. Olivet rebounded to beat SUNY-Oswego, 26-13. The Comets will face Springfield (Mass.) College in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
Against LaCrosse, sophomore 133-pounder Robert Dodson (Elsie/Ovid-Elsie High School) and junior 157-pounder Tyler Hubert (Grand Ledge High School) were the lone winners for Olivet. Dodson won by forfeit and Hubert beat his opponent, 3-2.
Against Oswego, Hubert pinned his opponent in 48 seconds and freshman 141-pounder Adam Monroe (Carson City Crystal High School) won 11-6. In addition, the Comets swept the upper weight classes.
Junior 174-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City High School) earned a 13-4 major decision victory; sophomore 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School) won, 3-2; sophomore 197-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock/Escanaba High School) recorded a 12-3 major decision win and junior heavyweight Mike Mikalakis (Jeddo/Port Huron Northern High School) defeated his opponent, 7-1.
Following tomorrow’s action, Olivet is idle until it participates in the Case Western (Ohio) Quad Meet next Saturday, Jan. 17.
