Wrestlers finish in third-place at Spartan Mat Classic
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in third-place (out of 11 teams) today at the Manchester (Ind.) College Spartan Mat Classic. The Fighting Comets tallied 95 team points. The host Spartans won the team title with 144 points, followed by Case Western (Ohio) University with 108.

Individually, Olivet had two wrestlers finish in second, one in third, two in fifth, two in sixth and one in seventh. Sophomore 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School) and sophomore 197-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock/Escanaba High School) finished in second-place with 3-1 records. Newberry fell 2-1 in his championship match. After winning twice by pin in earlier rounds, Wright lost his championship match, 14-10.
Freshman 141-pounder Adam Monroe (Carson City Crystal High School) was third and earned the most pins/least time award. He recorded three pins in 9:01, including a 28-second pin in the third-place match. Sophomore 149-pounder Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) and junior 174-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City High School) finished in fifth-place.
Junior 157-pounder Tyler Hubert (Grand Ledge High School) and sophomore 165-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) finished in sixth. Sophomore 125-pounder Kefentse Mandisa (Westland/John Glenn High School) was seventh.
The wrestlers will next compete at the Millikin (Ill.) University duals on Sunday, Feb. 1. Olivet will wrestle Millikin and North Central (Ill.) College with action beginning at 2 p.m. EST.
