Wrestling team defeats Bethel (Ind.), 21-16

In dramatic fashion, the Olivet College wrestling team defeated Bethel College of Indiana, 21-16, tonight at Goodman Gymnasium in Mishawaka, Indiana.

The night started off at 157 pounds where the Pilots picked up a 13-6 decision win. The Fighting Comets then reeled off four straight wins in the upper weights as sophomore 165-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) won 8-1, junior 174-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City High School) won 19-5, sophomore 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School) won 15-7 and sophomore 197-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock/Escanaba High School) won 10-2.

Bethel regained control to take a 16-15 lead in team points with victories at 285, 125, 133 and 141 pounds. With just the 149-pound match remaining, Olivet senior 149-pounder Dave Bishop (Algonac High School) pinned Tim Cocanower at the 4:41 mark for the Comet victory.

The wrestlers will host the Mid-States Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 14. The tournament will be held in the Upton Center and will start at 10 a.m.
