Wrestlers finish in seventh-place at RIT Invitational
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in seventh-place (out of 17 teams) today at the 39th Annual Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.
The Olivet College wrestling team finished in seventh-place (out of 17 teams) today at the 39th Annual Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.
The Fighting Comets recorded 66.50 team points to finish just 1/2 point behind sixth-place Plymouth State. Ithaca (N.Y.) College won the team title with 140 points.
Leading the way for Olivet were sophomore 125-pounder Shawn Parker (Inkster/John Glenn High School), sophomore 174-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School) and sophomore 184-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock Escanaba High School), who placed fifth in their respective weight class.
Parker ended the day with a 5-2 record. Newberry had a 3-2 record, including a 2-0 victory in his fifth-place match. Wright was 4-1 with a win by pin 4:15.
Sophomore Rob Dodson (Elsie/Ovid-Elsie High School) finished in sixth-place at 133 pounds. He had a 2-3 record. After losing 19-2 in the semifinals, he had to medically forfeit his last two matches.
In addition, twin brothers Ken and Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) each had a 3-2 record at 149 and 165 pounds, respectively.
The Comets are next in action on Tuesday, Dec. 9, when they host Ohio Northern University at MacKay Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
