Wrestling team upsets #26 Ohio Northern, 31-13
The Olivet College wrestling team defeated Ohio Northern University, 31-13, tonight at MacKay Gymnasium. Ohio Northern entered the match ranked 26th in the latest Brute-Adidas/National Wrestling Coaches Association poll.

The match opened with Ohio Northern winning the 125-pound match by pin. The Comets responded as freshman 133-pounder Adam Monroe (Carson City Crystal High School) won with a first period pin in 1:37. At 141 pounds, sophomore Eric Bryan (Fremont High School) won an 8-3 decision.
Sophomore 157-pounder Ken Andrews (Swartz Creek High School) answered an ONU major decision win at 149 pounds with his own 15-2 major decision victory. The Polar Bears tied the team score at 13-13 with a win in the 165 pound weight class.
Olivet closed the match with four straight victories. Junior 174-pounder Todd Miller (Casnovia/Kent City High School) and junior heavyweight Ryan Tiseo (Washington/Romeo High School) won by pin in 5:50 and 3:40, respectively. Sophomore 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven High School) won 5-3. Sophomore 197-pounder Jeff Wright (Rock/ Escanaba High School) won 7-6 by virtue of a riding time point at the end of the match.
"I am extremely happy," said second-year Head Coach Steve Laidacker. "We felt that we could win this match. Even more, I thought that it could be a 10-15 point spread. The guys certainly stepped up."
Olivet is next in action on Friday, Dec. 12, when it travels to compete at the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology Duals. In addition to the Engineers, the Comets will wrestle William-Penn (Iowa) University. The duals was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was rescheduled after a scheduling conflict at Rose-Hulman.
