Wrestlers finish in second-place at 2005 Mid-States Conference Tournament
The wrestling team finished in second-place (out of seven teams) today at the Mid-States Conference Tournament hosted by Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology. The Fighting Comets tallied 129.5 team points.
The wrestling team finished in second-place (out of seven teams) today at the Mid-States Conference Tournament hosted by Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology. The Fighting Comets tallied 129.5 team points to finish behind Wabash (Ind.) College, who had 134 points.
Olivet had two individual champions in junior 165-pounder Mike Andrews (Swartz Creek) and senior 197-pounder Ahmad Zeaiter (Kalamazoo/Portage Northern). Andrews had a 3-0 record and has now won 12 straight matches. His wins were 19-1 technical fall in the first round, 13-5 in the semifinals and 9-1 in the championship match. Zeaiter finished with a 4-0 record. His first two wins of the day were by pin in 4:10 and 6:26 and then had a 2-1 overtime win in the semifinals and a 2-0 victory in the championship match.
Junior 184-pounder Ryan Newberry (South Haven) and senior heavyweight Ryan Tiseo (Washington/Romeo) claimed second-place finishes. Both wrestlers had 2-1 records. Newberry’s wins were 18-3 tech fall and 7-4. Tiseo had 7-1 and 7-5 decision victories.
The Comets will next wrestle Thursday, Feb. 17 when they host Mott Community College, Ohio Northern University and Tri-State (Ind.) University.
