Wrestling team falls to Grand Valley State University club team, 22-14

The Olivet College wrestling team was defeated by the Grand Valley State University club team, 22-14, tonight at Forest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids.

The breakdown of the Comets’ wins were two by major decision and two by minor decision. They also had three heartbreaking losses as two bouts were decided by one point and another one by two points.

Sophomores Jason Brew (Sparta) and Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta) earned the major decision victories at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. Brew won 13-2, while Vanderhyde won 17-6.

Sophomore 125-pounder Kyle Labrecque (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and senior 197-pounder Jeff Wright (Escanaba) each had victories by minor decision. Labrecque had a six-point victory, 12-6, and Wright had a two-point win, 4-2.

Olivet is back in action Saturday, Jan. 20, when it participates in the Manchester (Ind.) College Spartan Mat Classic. Action gets under way at 9 a.m.
