The Olivet College wrestling team split two matches today at the first day of the 2010 Bud Whitehill Duals, which is being held at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. The Comets, ranked No. 29 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, defeated Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College, 37-12, in their first match. In the next round, Olivet fell to the No. 7 College of New Jersey, 33-4.
Against B-W, sophomore 125-pounder Justin Fleeson (Belleville) pinned his opponent in 2:40. Junior 133-pounder Adam Wilson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) used the riding point at the end of the match to win, 8-7. Junior Vince Tucker (Clio) won by a 14-5 score at 141 pounds. Senior Nick Leon (Sterling Heights/Henry Ford II) tilted his opponent 30 seconds into the second period for a pin at 149 pounds.
After a Comet loss at 157 pounds, sophomores Justin Jaynes (Richmond) and Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) picked-up forfeit victories at 165 and 175 pounds, respectively. Freshman 184-pounder Josh Crawford (Birch Run) closed the match scoring for Olivet with a pin in 4:02.
Against New Jersey, Tucker was the only winner for the Comets, as he posted a 17-3 major decision victory.
The Comets will face Messiah (Pa.) College in the wrestle-back bracket tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. With a win in that match, Olivet will be guaranteed a top-eight finish at the duals.
