Brackets released for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships
The brackets for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships March 9-10 at the La Crosse Center in LaCrosse, Wis. have been released. Three Olivet College wrestlers have received a seed.
OLIVET, Mich. – The brackets for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships March 9-10 at the La Crosse Center in LaCrosse, Wis. have been released. Three Olivet College wrestlers have received a seed.
Senior 174-pounder Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) and junior 285-pounder Logan Renas (Big Rapids) have both received the No. 7 seed, while junior 165-pounder James Myers (Indian Creek/Monroe) is the No. 8 seed. Myers and Tyler are making a return trip to the national championships. Myers earned All-American honors last year with a sixth-place finish.
In the first round, Tyler will face Matt Cross from Messiah (Pa.) College. Renas will wrestle Patrick Walsh from Bridgewater State (Mass.) University. Myers will compete against Quint Eno from Elizabethtown (Pa.) College.
Sophomore 125-pounder Robbie Bidlingmaier (Chesterfield Twp./Anchor Bay) and senior 197-pounder Justin Leonard (Webberville) did not receive seed. In their opening round matches, Bidlingmaier will face another unseeded wrestler, Sean Ambrocio from Concordia (Wis.) University and Leonard will wrestle No. 7 seed William Meany from Elizabethtown.
Olivet enters the tournament ranked No. 7 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll. Tyler is No. 7 and Renas is No. 8 in the NWCA Individual rankings. According to the d3wrestle.com rankings, Bidlingmaier is No. 10 and Tyler is No. 6, Lenoard and Renas are listed as contenders, and Myers is an honorable mention choice.
The Comets are one of 16 schools to qualify at least five wrestlers. Wartburg (Iowa) College has the most with 10, followed by Augsburg (Minn) College and Coe (Iowa) College with eight each, Ithaca (N.Y.) College and University of Wis.-Whitewater with six apiece, and then a group of eight schools with five each.
