OLIVET COLLEGE WRESTLING TEAM WINS NWCA NATIONAL ACADEMIC CHAMPIONSHIP

The success of the Olivet College wrestling team in 2012-13 carried over from the mat and into the class room. The Comets reached as high as No. 7 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll during the season. With a 3.67 grade point average (GPA), Olivet was then crowned the NCAA Division III National Champion for academics by virtue of a first-place standing in the NWCA Scholar Team awards.

With a 3.67 grade point average (GPA), the Olivet College wrestling team has won the 2013 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Annual Academic Championship.

Olivet College seniors Jake Ceslick and James Myers both finished one win shy of earning All-American honors at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Cornell College is hosting the championships at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Led by individual titles from junior Justin Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) at 141 pounds and senior Logan Renas (Big Rapids) at 197 pounds, the Olivet College wrestling team finished in third-place today at the 2013 Mid-States Conference Tournament.

In a collegiate wrestling dual meet, the minimum total points scored is 30. Tonight, at the Art Smith Arena in Alma, Olivet and Alma College split the 10 bouts and all were by minor decision, resulting in a 15-15 tie. Since neither team had earned any bonus points, criteria utilized to break the tie was most match points scored by a team. The Scots outscored the Comets, 52-48, giving them an additional team point per NCAA rules and the ultimate victory by a score of 16-15.

Led by first-period pins by seniors Kenny Richmond (Brighton) at 141 pounds and James Myers (Monroe/Indian Creek) at 165 pounds, the Olivet College wrestling team crushed Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 33-6, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

The Olivet College wrestling team had a 2-1 record today at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Border Brawl Duals. The Comets, ranked No. 16 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, started the day with a 36-9 win over unranked Wis.-Oskosh, and followed that with a 24-13 loss to No. 13 Whitewater. Olivet then upset No. 6 Wis.-Stevens Point, 24-15, in the third round.

The Olivet College wrestling team won 7-of-10 bouts to easily defeat Trine (Ind.) University, 31-10, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

The Olivet College wrestling team had a 1-2 record today at the 2012 National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen National Duals, presented by Hibiclens and The Marines. The Comets lost back-to-back close matches to Wis.-Whitewater, 18-16, and Wesleyan, 20-17, before bouncing back to end the day with a 27-6 win over Dubuque.
