The success of the Olivet College wrestling team in 2012-13 carried over from the mat and into the class room. The Comets reached as high as No. 7 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll during the season. With a 3.67 grade point average (GPA), Olivet was then crowned the NCAA Division III National Champion for academics by virtue of a first-place standing in the NWCA Scholar Team awards.

The Scots outscored the Comets, 52-48, giving them an additional team point per NCAA rules and the ultimate victory by a score of 16-15.
Led by first-period pins by seniors Kenny Richmond (Brighton) at 141 pounds and James Myers (Monroe/Indian Creek) at 165 pounds, the Olivet College wrestling team crushed Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 33-6, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
Led by junior Gage Pederson’s (Hastings) runner-up finish at 149 pounds, the Olivet College wrestling team finished in fifth-place at the Pete Willson Invitational this weekend at Wheaton (Ill.) College.

Olivet then upset No. 6 Wis.-Stevens Point, 24-15, in the third round.
