Wrestling team kicks off season at MSU Open
The Olivet College wrestling team kicked off the 2013-14 season today by participating in the Michigan State University Open inside the Jenison Fieldhouse in East Lansing.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team kicked off the 2013-14 season today by participating in the Michigan State University Open inside the Jenison Fieldhouse in East Lansing.
The Comets' top performance was turned in by freshman Kyle Gillies (Westland/John Glenn) in the 125-pound bracket of the freshman/sophomore division. He posted a 3-2 record to finish in seventh-place. Also in the freshman/sophomore division, freshman Lake Bennett (Birch Run) won his first two matches in the 149-pound bracket. In the open division, senior Robbie Bidlingmaier (Chesterfield Twp./Anchor Bay) had two wins by fall in the 133-pound bracket. No other Olivet wrestlers won more than one match.
The Comets will return to the mats next Saturday when they travel down I-69 to participate in the Trine (Ind.) University Open.
