Wrestling team moves up to No. 7 NWCA rankings, earns No. 1 seed at Budd Whitehill Duals
The Olivet College wrestling team moves up to No. 7 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 30 poll.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team has moved up to No. 7 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 30 poll, released Jan. 6. The Comets entered the 2013-14 season unranked, moved into the poll for the first time at No. 14 and then climbed up to No. 7.
Olivet is coming off a 2-2 record at the Desert Duals Dec. 21 in Las Vegas. The Comets defeated No. 8 SUNY-Cortland and No. 22 Saint John's (Minn.) University, while losing to No. 1 Wartburg (Iowa) College and No. 9 Coe (Iowa) College. In the individual NWCA rankings, senior Jeff Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) is No. 4 at 184 pounds.
The Comets also ranked No. 12, according to the d3wrestle.com team poll. In the individual d3wrestle.com rankings, Holm is No. 5 at 184 pounds. Twin brother Justin Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) is No. 10 at 141 pounds. Junior Trevor Timmreck (Birch Run) is No. 6 at 285 pounds. Seniors Robbie Bidlingmaier (Chesterfield Twp./Anchor Bay) at 125 pounds and Gage Pederson (Hastings) at 149 pounds, and junior Nick Allen (Scotville/Mason County Central) at 174 pounds are listed as contenders.
Olivet is back in action Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11, at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming (Pa.) College. The Comets have received the No. 1 seed and will face Muskingum (Ohio) University in the first round Friday morning at 9 a.m. Click here for the complete duals bracket.
