FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Trevor Piggott has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Wrestler of the Week.
Piggott captured first-place in the 285-pound bracket at the season-opening Ben McMullen Open, hosted by Muskegon Community College. He started his day with an 8-2 decision and followed that with a pin at 1:20. Piggott followed that with a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals. An escape and takedown late in the match being difference in the match. He then won an 8-4 decision in the semifinal. Two takedowns in the final period sealed his win. In the championship match, Piggott won 3-1, with a takedown in the first period being the winning points.
"Trevor did a great job being really aggressive in his offense early on in matches and then using his conditioning to finish out matches," said Olivet head coach Brandon Brissette. "After not placing in this tournament last year, he has shown great improvement from last year until now."
Olivet makes the trip down I-69 to wrestle at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational on Saturday.
