OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College at Olivet College wrestling dual match Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, is serving as a benefit to support the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan. The match will be held at the Upton Center Gymnasium, and will get underway at 7 p.m. The Olivet College athletic department will donate $1 per fan in attendance toward the house. In addition, there will be a donation bucket at the entrance to the gym and the bucket will passed through the stands during the match's intermission.
Olivet's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has declared the match as a "White Out," so Comet fans are encouraged to wear white! All Olivet students, faculty and staff will be admitted for free. You just have to show your ID card.
Olivet enters the match with a 5-3 overall record and are ranked No. 25 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association poll. The Comets are coming off a 1-2 record at the Kalahari Duals. Olivet defeated University of Wis.-Oshkosh, but fell to No. 7-ranked Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University and No. 6-ranked University of Mount Union (Ohio).
The match will be the 30th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Comets. Ironically, Adrian won the first 10 matches, and the Comets have now won 19 straight against the Bulldogs, including a 23-12 victory last season at Adrian's Merillat Center.
The Comets won the 2018-19 MIAA championship after beating each of its three league rivals – Adrian, Alma and Trine. The MIAA previously sponsored wrestling from 1969-1984. The Comets have won 10 outright titles (1972-79, 1984, 2019) and shared another (1980).
The wrestling team wants to FILL THE GYM for the dual match since it is the one of two home matches for the Comets this semester! At the intermission, Olivet will recognize the student-athletes who earned All-MIAA honors during the 2019 fall season, and the 2018-19 women's volleyball team for having one of the top team GPAs in the MIAA as well as its recent trip to Cape Town, South Africa.
