HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Olivet College junior Donovan King has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week for wrestling.
Competing as the No. 1-ranked wrestler at 285 pounds, King posted a 4-0 record at the 2022 Comet Duals. He opened the day with a 31-second pin over Austin Ryder from University of Mount Union (Ohio). He edged No. 14-ranked Brett Schoenherr from University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 5-4, with the riding time point being the difference in the match. King then beat Thomas Blackwell from John Carroll (Ohio) University, 14-1. He ended his day with a second-period pin at 3:28 over Jadon Brownlee from Ohio Northern University.
"Saturday was one of those days we had been looking forward to as a team but for Donovan specifically," said Olivet head coach Brandon Brissette. "The heavy weights from the three Ohio schools had been showing some good results in their opening events and we knew the wrestler from Platteville would be a great national test for him. There is a lot of season left so we have growth to be done, but I really love how Donovan was the first to score and the last to score in each of his four matches."
King and the Comets are back in action Saturday, December 3, at the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Invitational in Ada, Ohio.
