WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Olivet wrestling team finished ninth at the Wheaton (Ill.) College / Pete Willson Invitational inside King Arena.

  • The Comets had 66.5 points.
  • University of Wisconsin-La Crosse edged University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by one point for the team title, 144.5 to 143.5.
  • Senior Donovan King was Olivet's best finisher, as he placed second in the 285-pound bracket. He won his first three matches by pin before winning 2-0 in the semifinals. King was pinned in the championship match.
  • At 149 pounds, senior Tyler Herrema finished fifth.
  • At 174 pounds, senior Mitchell Reynolds had a 4-3 record to place sixth.
  • At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps was seventh.

  • 141: Dylan Phelps – 4-2 record – 7th-place – won 9-1 MD over Gabriel Bellefeuille (Concordia-Moorhead, Minn.), won 19-3 TF over Cooper Peterson (Wisconsin-Stevens Point), lost 17-0 TF to Josiah Gehr (Messiah, Pa.), won 10-4 over Bo Niewiadomski (Wis.-Eau Claire), lost 9-3 to Sean Conway (Chicago, Ill.), won by medical forfeit over Joshua Robison (North Central, Ill.).
  • 149: Tyler Herrema – 4-2 record – 5th-place – won 18-1 TF over Noah Orser (Cortland State, N.Y.), won 17-1 TF over Claude Buckmaster (Heidelberg, Ohio), won 15-1 MD over Jalin Conner (Wisconsin-Whitewater), pinned by Zach Soto (Wisconsin-Eau Claire) in 1:57, pinned by Talan Schutte (Wisconsin-La Crosse) in 2:37, won by medical forfeit over Dalton Monger (Messiah, Pa.).

  • The Comets resume their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule next Thursday, February 1, when it travels to wrestle Albion College at 7 p.m.
