The University of Olivet wrestling team, eight individuals earn NWCA academic honors
MANHEIM, Pa. – The University of Olivet wrestling team along with eight individuals have earned academic honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for the 2023-24 season.
The Comets were named a Scholar All-America Team after posting the 20th-highest grade point average among all NCAA Division III wrestling programs. Olivet's GPA was 3.540. The GPA is an average cumulative GPA for the 10 wrestlers, who competed at the NCAA Central Regional and two at-large wrestlers who weighed-in for a specific number of matches.
The eight individuals who were selected the NWCA Scholar All-American team are junior Robert Davids, junior Boe Eckman, junior Ramiro Guerrero, junior Tyler Herrema, junior Emmett Kettel, junior Kody Krupp, sophomore Darren McLeod and junior Dylan Phelps.
Herrema is now a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American. Davids, Guerrero, and McLeod are now two-time selections. Eckman, Kettell, Krupp and Phelps are earning the honor for the first time. The eight wrestlers are among the 418 individuals representing 100 institutions on this year's list of honorees. Since the inception of the NWCA Scholar All-American award in 1984, 81 Olivet student-athletes have combined to earn 150 total awards.
Overall, the Comets have received Scholar All-America Team status 22 times since 1998. Of the 22 times, Olivet has ranked in the top 20 every year except one time.
