UOlivet dominate at Heidelberg Holiday Duals, posts 4-0 record

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Winning 35 of 40 matches, The University of Olivet wrestling team had a dominating performance at the 2024 Holiday Duals, hosted by Heidelberg (Ohio) University and inside the Cedar Point Sports Center. The Comets won its four matches – defeating Heidelberg, 37-6; Otterbein (Ohio) University, 45-4; Penn State Behrend (Pa.), 45-3; and Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University, 47-4.
VS. HEIDELBERG
- The Comets won eight of 10 matches, scoring bonus points in six of the wins (three pins, one technical fall and two major decisions).
- At 125 pounds, senior Benyamin Kamali started the match off with a quick six points when he pinned his opponent in only 46 seconds.
- At 133 pounds, senior Robert Davids won 5-3, with escape points late in the second period and another at the start of the third period being the difference in the match.
- At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps posted a 13-7 decision.
- At 149 pounds, senior Tyler Herrema earned a 12-4 major decision win.
- At 157 pounds, senior Ramiro Guerrero overwhelmed his opponent in a 13-4 major decision victory.
- At 174 pounds, senior Jay Shaull coasted to a 17-1 technical fall win in the first period.
- At 197 pounds, senior Kody Krupp pinned his opponent one minute and 18 seconds into the match.
- At 285 pounds, senior Boe Eckman won by pin at four minutes.
VS. OTTERBEIN
- Olivet won nine out of the 10 matches. Of the nine wins, seven scored bonus points (three pins, three technical falls and one forfeit).
- At 125 pounds, freshman Sean Pettigrew picked up a forfeit win.
- At 133 pounds, senior Emmett Kettel cruised to a 22-7 technical fall victory.
- At 141 pounds, Phelps posted a 17-2 technical fall win.
- At 157 pounds, Guerrero jumped out to a 15-3 lead and hung on for a 17-13 win.
- At 165 pounds, sophomore Kyan Larson claimed a 10-5 victory.
- At 174 pounds, sophomore Hayden Koehler shutout his opponent, 16-0, for a technical fall in the third period.
- At 184 pounds, junior Gideon Loewen pinned his opponent at one minute and 14 seconds.
- At 197 pounds, Krupp recorded a fall at four minutes and 20 seconds.
- At 285 pounds, Eckman capped the win with a pin at three minutes and 38 seconds.
VS. PENN STATE BEHREND
- The Comets claimed wins in nine matches, with bonus point victories in seven.
- At 125 pounds, Kamali won via pin at two minutes and 16 seconds.
- At 133 pounds, Davids posted a 15-0 technical fall win.
- At 141 pounds, Phelps earned a forfeit victory.
- At 149 pounds, Herrema rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win 10-6.
- At 165 pounds, sophomore Juwan Vines had a 16-5 major decision victory.
- At 174 pounds, Shaull pinned his opponent in just 42 seconds.
- At 184 pounds, freshman Jack Ward eked out a 4-1 win. A takedown in the first period was the difference in the match.
- At 197 pounds, Krupp won by forfeit.
- At 285 pounds, Eckman also had a forfeit win.
VS. MOUNT ST. JOSEPH
- Olivet won nine of 10 matches. Five of the wins were pins, two were technical falls, one was a major decision and the last one was a minor decision.
- At 125 pounds, Kamali recorded his third straight pin, this one at one minute and 41 seconds. His three pins for the day totaled four minutes and 43 seconds.
- At 133 pounds, Kettell won a 9-1 major decision.
- At 149 pounds, Herrema racked a takedown and three four-point near falls in the first period for a 15-0 technical fall win.
- At 157 pounds, freshman Noah Hall pinned his opponent with only 44 seconds left in the match.
- At 165 pounds, sophomore Kyan Larson earned a 4-1 win. His four points were an escape and takedown in the second period.
- At 174 pounds, Shaull was up 9-0 before getting the pin in the final 30 seconds of the opening period.
- At 184 pounds, Loewen posted a first-period pin at one minute and 13 seconds.
- At 197 pounds, Krupp also had a quick pin at one minute and 40 seconds.
- At 285 pounds, sophomore Mason Knight ended Olivet's dominating day with a 19-4 technical fall victory.
UP NEXT
- The Comets will participate in the University of Chicago (Ill.) Triangular next Thursday, December 19. Olivet will face North Central (Ill.) College at 1 p.m. CT, followed by a match against the host Maroons.
