UOlivet wrestling trio advances to semifinals at NCAA Division III Region V Tournament
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Olivet wrestling team has qualified three individuals for the semifinals, and the Comets are fourth after day one of the 2025 NCAA Division III Region V Tournament at Wabash (Ind.) College and inside Knowling Fieldhouse. Five other UOlivet wrestlers are still alive in the consolation bracket and have secured a top-eight finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The No. 3 seed at 125 pounds, senior Benyamin Kamali won his two matches by pin. The first was in 59 seconds and the second was in one minute and 29 seconds. He will face second-seed Jalen Dunson from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the semifinals.
- The fourth seed at 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps had a 2-0 record. He won his first match via technical fall, 17-1, and grinded his way to a 5-4 win in the quarterfinals. He will wrestle top-seed Bradley Rosen from North Central (Ill.) College in the semifinals.
- The No. 2 seed at 149 pounds, senior Tyler Herrema claimed a 9-1 major decision win in a prelim match. He then won a 17-1 technical fall and 12-4 major decision to reach the semifinals, where he will face third-seed Jalin Conner from Wis.-Whitewater in the semifinals.
- Senior Robert Davids at 133 pounds won his first match, 12-2, before dropping his quarterfinal match to the top seed. He bounced back to win his first consolation bracket match, 17-1.
- At 157 pounds, senior Ramiro Gurrero lost his first match but rebounded to win two matches, 18-1 and 15-5.
- At 174 pounds, senior Jay Shaull posted a 2-1 record. He pinned his first opponent, was pinned in the quarterfinals and won a 15-0 technical fall in the consolation bracket quarterfinals.
- At 197 pounds, senior Kody Krupp shut out his first opponent, 16-0, lost his quarterfinal match and won a 24-6 technical fall.
- At 285 pounds, senior Boe Eckman received a bye in the first round. He lost 10-2 to the second seed before rebounding to pin his next opponent in 24 seconds.

- 165: Juwan Vines – 1-2 record – won 16-9 SV-1 over Nick Cheshier (Chicago), lost 17-3 major decision to Zachary Platte (Adrian), lost 17-1 technical fall to Joey Jens (Millikin)
- 174: Jay Shaull – 2-1 record – pinned Cooper McCloy (Wabash) in 1:44, pinned by Javen Estrada (North Central) in 4:13, won 15-0 technical fall over Garrett Boyd (Wheaton)
- 184: Gideon Loewen – 0-2 record – pinned by Benicio Martinez (Millikin) in 2:17, pinned by Gavin Malone (Trine) in 2:38
