The Olivet College women's soccer team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 5-0 loss today at Calvin College.
The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Elaine Schnabel. They added to their lead with a goal just 1:34 left before halftime when Emily Ottenhoff knocked in a goal off a free kick. The score remained 3-0 at the break. In the second half, Katie Pranger scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute, and Liz Cancel scored in the 78th minute.
Olivet finished the game with only two shots, one each by sophomore Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) and junior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson). Julian's shot was on-goal. Junior Megan Colby (Sparta/Cedar Springs) played the first half in goal, facing 16 shots and making three saves. Junior Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) saw her first action of the season in the second half. She made five saves on 12 shots.
The Comets return to action Tuesday, Oct. 6, when they host Alma College at 4 p.m.
