Olivet got on the scoreboard just 7:46 into the game when junior Ashley Buyce (Portage/Central) dented the net for her third goal of the season. Freshman Rebecca Gaarde (Parma/Western) and junior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) each received credit for an assist. It was Gaarde's team-leading fourth of the season.
With 5:07 left before halftime, sophomore Sam Spiteri (St. Clair Shores/Lake Shore) found the net after receiving a pass from sophomore Lizzy Julian (Mattawan). The score was still 2-0 at halftime. Spiteri added another goal in the 66th minute, and Buyce earned the assist on the goal.
The Comets had a 13-3 margin in shots, including 11-1 in shots-on-goal. Julian and Spiteri each took three shots. All three shots for Julian were on-goal. Buyce and freshman Sarah Beckon (Lansing/Waverly) had two shots apiece. Juniors Megan Colby (Sparta/Cedar Springs) and Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/ Lakeshore) combined for the shutout in goal. Colby faced one shot and did not have to make a save in the first half, while Scudder made one save on two shots in the second half.
Olivet hosts Adrian College Saturday at noon.
