Three student-athletes earn MIAA Player of the Week honors
Three Olivet College student-athletes have earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week honors.
Three Olivet College student-athletes have earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week honors. Junior Chris Behnke (Olivet) is the Defensive Player of the Week in football, while sophomore Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) and junior Mike May (Mason) are Offensive Players of the Week in women's and men's soccer.
Behnke led the defense with 14 tackles in a 12-7 loss against Concordia University Chicago Sept. 19. His tackles included nine solo stops, 3.5 for loss and one quarterback sack, and he also intercepted a pass. For the season, Behnke has a team-high 33 tackles, including six for minus 24 yards.
Julian scored three goals and tallied two assists, as Olivet posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 2-1 win against Manchester (Ind.) College Sept. 16, she scored the Comets' first goal and assisted on the game-winning goal. In a 2-0 victory against Anderson (Ind.) University Sept. 19, Julian earned the assist on the first goal and scored the second goal. In a 3-2 loss against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she scored a penalty kick goal. For the season, she tops Olivet with 12 points (five goals and two assists).
May had a part in each of the Comets' three goals, as they won the championship of the Alma/Olivet Soccer Classic Sept. 19-20. In a 1-0 win against Anderson, he scored the only goal. In a 2-1 win against Wisconsin-Whitewater, May scored the game-tying goal in the 81st minute and then assisted on the game-winning goal in the second minute of overtime. For the season, he has six points (two goals and two assists), while taking a team-leading 29 shots.
The football team is back in action Saturday, Sept. 26, when it travels to play North Central (Ill.) College at 6 p.m. The women's soccer team travels to Notre Dame, Ind., to participate in the Saint Mary's College Fall Classic Sept. 25-26. The men's soccer team opens MIAA play Wednesday, Sept. 23 when it travels to play Adrian College at 4 p.m.
