Seniors help women’s soccer team shutout Albion, 2-0
Seniors Madison Forsyth and Becca Gaarde each scored a goal to lead the Olivet College women’s soccer team shutout MIAA rival Albion College, 2-0, today at the Olivet High School Athletic Complex.
OLIVET, Mich. – Seniors Madison Forsyth (Macomb Twp./Henry Ford II) and Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) each scored a goal to lead the Olivet College women's soccer team shutout Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 2-0, today at the Olivet High School Athletic Complex.
Gaarde scored the first goal with six minutes and 31 seconds left before halftime. Freshman Emily Chrzasz (Livonia/Stevenson) earned the assist on the goal. The Comets led 1-0 at halftime despite doubling the Britons in total shots, 12-6, in the first 45 minutes of the game.
Olivet added its second goal late in the game in the 73rd minute. Junior Jenna Mayle (Ionia) served the ball into the box, and Forsyth knocked it in for her first goal of the season. The Comets finished the second half with an 11-4 advantage in total shots.
For the game, Olivet out-shot the Britons, 23-10. Gaarde topped the team with six shots, while Chrzasz and sophomore Kaylee Liddle (Clarkston) each had four. Freshman Deanna Zolnoski (Macomb/Henry Ford II) made six saves, while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
The Comets will conclude their season next week with three games, including two home contests. On Tuesday, they travel to play Kalamazoo College at 7 p.m. On Thursday, Olivet hosts Trine (Ind.) University at 4 p.m., and on Saturday, it welcomes Adrian College to the Cutler Athletic Complex for a noon game.
