Hamad leads women’s soccer team to 2-1 win over Rochester
Freshman Amber Hamad (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) scored her first two collegiate goals, as the Olivet College women’s soccer team defeated Rochester College this afternoon inside the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac.
PONTIAC, Mich. – Freshman Amber Hamad (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) scored her first two collegiate goals, as the Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Rochester College this afternoon inside the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac. The Comets have a 3-0 record and are off to their best start since 2007 when they also went 3-0.
Hamad put Olivet up 1-0 with her first goal in the 40th minute. After receiving a pass from senior Mary Lamp (Alpena), she sent a shot into the net from 15 yards out. The score stayed 1-0 at halftime.
The Comets added to their lead only seven minutes and 11 seconds into the second half. With a bunch of players clogging the net, Hamad was able to get a shot past the keeper. Lamp and sophomore Gusty Kummer (Plymouth/Salem) were each credited with an assist on the goal. The Warriors broke up the shutout with an unassisted tally in the 73rd minute.
For the game, Olivet had a 19-6 advantage in total shots, including an 11-2 edge in the final 45 minutes. Sophomore Nicole Borek (Holt) led the way with four shots, placing three on net. Hamad had three shots. Freshman Kori Ramirez (Holt) picked-up her first collegiate win in goal. She made three saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Comets are now off until next Monday, Sept. 9 when they travel to play Adrian College in their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener under the lights of Performance Stadium at 7 p.m.
