Women's swim and dive team falls to Hope, defeats Alma
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team defeated Alma College, 67-46, as a part of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) double dual meet at Hope College. The Lady Comets dropped a 72-36 decision to the defending MIAA champ Flying Dutch.

Leading the way for Olivet was freshman diver Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School), who placed first overall in the one- and three-meter dive events. She broke her own school record in the one-meter (235.55) and won the three-meter (215.55).
Four other individuals set school records: Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School) in the 1000 free (11:29.17), Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School) in the 200 butterfly (2:24.72), Kristi Miller (Marshall High School) in the 50 free (25.82) and Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.96).
In addition, Herzog and Miller teamed with Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School) and Janet Stam (Holland High School) to set a school record in 400 free relay (3:51.99). Lingbeek, McHugh, Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) and Stam broke the school mark in the 400 medley relay (4:14.92).
Roesch also placed first overall in 200 individual medley (2:20.27), and second in the 200 backstroke (2:16.94). Herzog was second in the 500 free (5:32.24).
The Comets are next in action on Friday, Jan. 16 when they travel to compete Kalamazoo for another MIAA double dual at Kalamazoo College. Action against the Hornets and Saint Mary's (Ind.) College will begin at 6 p.m.
